Programme Overview

The MBA (Tourism Management) hereafter MBA TM, at IIM Sirmaur is a two-year, full-time residential programme designed to provide a comprehensive management education with a strong sectoral focus on tourism, travel, hospitality, aviation, events, and allied services. The programme follows a trimester-based academic structure, with the first year focused on core management disciplines and the second year offering sector-focused core and elective specialisations. During the first year, students develop competencies in strategy, marketing, finance, operations, economics, analytics, information systems, and organisational behaviour, with contextual applications to tourism and hospitality. The second year enables students to deepen sectoral expertise through courses in destination planning, tourism policy, sustainable tourism, air transport management, hospitality operations, tourist behaviour, and event management. The programme places strong emphasis on applied learning, ethics, governance, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and leadership development, preparing graduates for responsible managerial roles in a dynamic service economy.

The programme integrates strong foundations in core management disciplines with sector-specific knowledge, enabling students to understand tourism both as a business system and as a socio-economic development engine. A key strength of the programme lies in its emphasis on applied learning through fieldwork, industry-oriented projects, and a mandatory summer internship in tourism and related domains. The curriculum is periodically updated in consultation with industry stakeholders to ensure relevance to market disruptions, technological advancements, and evolving business models. Graduates are equipped with analytical, strategic, and operational perspectives to contribute effectively to tourism enterprises, destination organisations, policy institutions, and entrepreneurial ventures.

Scholarships

Enrolled students of IIM Sirmaur may apply for scholarships available through the National Scholarship Portal (https://scholarships.gov.in), subject to eligibility as per the norms of the respective scholarship schemes. The concerned Programme Office and the Scholarship Office of IIM Sirmaur provide guidance to students regarding the application process and completion of the required formalities.

Loan Support

IIM Sirmaur has empanelled leading banks to facilitate education loans at preferential rates of interest. Comprehensive details of these empanelled banks, including key loan features and terms, are provided to students along with the admission offer letter. Students may independently evaluate the options available and are free to select any of the empanelled banks based on their individual financial requirements and the loan facilities offered. The Institute facilitates access to information; however, the final decision regarding the selection of the bank and loan availing process rests solely with the student.
